CMF PALETTE AND MATERIAL SAMPLE BOARDS

Generation Essence is an in-depth research project that explores people, brands, technology and cultural sensibilities of each generation. Insights are translated into aesthetic expressions conveyed by CMF Themes and Material Sample Boards that reflect generational aesthetic profiles.

For each generation – Boomers, Gen X, Gen Y, Gen Z and Gen Alpha – we uncover significant socio-cultural and technology influences that form the DNA of consumer behaviors. By understanding each generation in detail – from consumer attitudes, behavioral characteristics to lifestyle influences and aesthetic preferences – we are able to distill the essential form, colors, materials and finishes that appeal to them. These insights provide the foundation in building up a CMF Palette Spectrum with eight CMF Themes that inspire the design and product development process with application recommendations.

The lifestyle theme, Generation Essence, is chosen to highlight key significant cultural and technology influences that define the way consumer products are designed and manufactured for each generation. By understanding the Generation DNA and all the factors that inspire their aesthetic preferences, we are able to construct Lifestyle Personas for each generation with an appropriate consumer personality and aesthetic profile .

For example:

Generation DNA for Millennials – Generation Y (Born 1981 – 1996)

Aesthetic Profile of Millennials – Generation Y (Born 1981 – 1996)

To inspire the design and product development process, we created a CMF Palette Spectrum with eight CMF Themes, along with application recommendations of materials, finishes and manufacturing processes.

Generation Essence was presented at Y Studios Open House during the 2014 San Francisco Design Week.
